INTERNATIONAL PARTNERS

IFAD

IFAD, a specialized agency of the United Nations, was established as an international financial institution in 1977 as one of the major outcomes of the 1974 World Food Conference.

In this context, IFAD was created to mobilize resources on concessional terms for programs that alleviate rural poverty and improve nutrition. Unlike other international financial institutions, which have a broad range of objectives, the Fund has a very specific mandate: to combat hunger and rural poverty in developing countries.

Since its establishment, IFAD has financed 603 projects in 115 countries and independent territories, to which it has committed USD 7.7 billion in grants and loans. IFAD financing is USD 7.3 billion in loans and USD 31.9 million in grants.

ADB

ADB is a multilateral development finance institutions, founded in 1966 to promote social and economic progress in its developing member countries (DMCs) in the Asian and Pacific region. As of the third quarter of 2000, ADB has 59 member countries.

ADB's principal functions are (i) lending funds; (ii) providing technical assistance and advisory services; (iii) promoting investments for development purposes; and (iv) assisting in coordinating DMCs' development policies and plans.

GRET/KOSAN

A non-profit association founded in 1976, the Research and Technological Exchange Group (GRET) is a development support organization. GRET acts for the economic and social development of developing countries through a combination of research, action and communication. GRET is active in Africa, Asia, Latin America and Europe.
